France accuses Syrian regime and its allies of undermining peace talks

April 13, 2016 at 11:50 am

France warned on Tuesday that attacks being carried out by the Syrian regime and its allies in Aleppo and Western Ghota, on the outskirts of Damascus, are threatening the fragile ceasefire and the coming peace talks, Anadolu reported.

Spokesman of the French Foreign Ministry Romain Nadal expressed his worries over the renewal of violence in Syria, Anadolu said.

Nadal said: “Al-Assad’s regime and its supporters will be blamed over any new humanitarian crisis that emerges due to these attacks, as well as over the fall of the ongoing peace talks.”

On 31 March, over 30 civilians, including many children, were reportedly killed in Syrian regime airstrikes targeting Al-Asafeer neighbourhood in Western Ghota.

Negotiations between the Syrian warring parties are set to resume on 13 April, but renewed violence in recent days threatens to derail the “cessation of hostilities”.
