Iran strengthens military presence in Syria

April 14, 2016 at 2:10 pm

Iranian troops are being sent to strengthen Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s army despite the growing death. According to Iranian media outlets, 23 Iranian army officers have been killed in Syria so far in April.

Deputy coordinator of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces, Amir-Ali Arasteh, announced last week that forces from the 65th Commando Brigade have been dispatched to Syria and other army units will join them.

Sources in Syria confirmed the presence of nearly 10,000 Iranian fighters, and 4,000 Lebanese Hezbollah fighters in the country.

Tehran deployed additional troops to Syria after Russian President Vladimir Putin withdrew part of the war planes ahead of a ceasefire agreement.
