Egypt arrests hundreds of protesters

April 28, 2016 at 11:36 am

Some 423 Egyptians were arrested during demonstrations on Monday in protest against Egypt’s waiver of territorial sovereignty over the Red Sea islands of Tiran and Sanafir to Saudi Arabia, a human rights organisation said.

The Geneva-based Committee for Justice said this is the highest number of arrests in a single day since the dispersal of the Rabaa Al-Adawiya sit-in.

The organisation said some of the protesters were released on the same day, but a large number are still being held.
