New round of Syria talks to begin mid-May

April 28, 2016 at 10:08 am

Informed diplomatic sources in Geneva revealed yesterday that a new round of talks on Syria may begin in mid-May.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov had announced earlier that the new round of talks would resume on 10 May.

UN envoy Staffan de Mistura said the current round of talks which began on 13 April ended on Wednesday, noting that the results would be presented before the UN Security Council.

The Syrian regime delegation led by the regime’s permanent Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari was scheduled to leave Geneva yesterday.

The Syrian opposition decided to postpone its participation in the Geneva talks citing a lack of progress on the humanitarian efforts, and the regime’s repeated violations of the truce.
