The Syrian regime yesterday refused the entry of humanitarian aid into the city of Daraya, on the outskirts of Damascus, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said.

“Unacceptable” conditions were set for the entry of the joint convoy set up by the Syrian Red Crescent and UN, he explained. “The convoy was refused entry, due to the medical and nutritional supplies on board.”

In a statement issued the Secretary-General added: “These conditions, imposed by government security personnel, were unacceptable, and contrary to earlier guarantees and approvals obtained by the Syrian government.”

Government forces refused to allow the aid to enter the besieged city of Daraya, which has been under the control of opposition forces since 2012, despite previously providing clearance.
