Egypt Muslim Brotherhood to separate politics from religious guidance

A member of the Muslim Brotherhood Shura Council in Egypt, Gamal Heshmat revealed that the group intends to separate political work from religious Dawa or guidance.

Heshmat who lives outside Egypt said in an interview with Anadolu News Agency that the members believe there is a need to separate the group’s political activity from its religious preaching while there are major efforts to revise other aspects of the group’s work but they need time, and strong will.

Heshmat explained that there are efforts to narrow any gaps within the group, and ruled out any proposals to split the group, which was founded in 1928.

The Muslim Brotherhood has endured internal disputes, which reached their peak in December last year.

The group’s Supreme Administrative Committee proposed two weeks ago a road map to end the internal dispute that included conducting comprehensive elections for all its bodies.
