Russia to return Israeli tank captured during invasion of Lebanon

Russia is going to return an Israeli tank captured during Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in 1982. The Magach tank was captured in the Battle of Sultan Yacoub, which took place in the Beqaa Valley between Syrian troops and the Israel Defence Forces. It has been exhibited at a museum near Moscow since the 1980s.

According to a statement issued by Benjamin Netanyahu’s office on Sunday, the tank is being returned by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin after a request from the Israeli prime minister.

Thirty Israeli soldiers were killed in the battle in which the tank was captured. Three others were reported to be missing in action.
