Members of Iraq’s police have committed violations against civilians in Fallujah during battles to recapture the city from Daesh, Parliament Speaker Saleem Al-Jubouri said.
“There is information indicating that some violations were carried out by some members of the federal police and some volunteers against civilians”, Al-Jubouri said in a statement.
“These actions are a disservice to the sacrifices … made by our heroic security forces,” he added.
Al-Jubouri urged Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi, in his capacity as commander of the Iraqi armed forces, to look into these acts and deal with them quickly in order to avoid repercussions.
He did not elaborate on the type of violations, but citizens who were able to leave Fallujah said members of the Shia Popular Mobilisation Forces tortured, humiliated and verbally abused civilians in the city.
