UNICEF criticises living conditions of refugee children in Germany

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has criticised the living conditions of refugee children in Germany, noting that they do not receive appropriate medical care and do not attend school for several months.

In a report, excerpts of which were published on Tuesday by the US network ABC News, the organization asserted: “Children also need to be better protected from abuse in large shelters and the length of their stays there needs to be reduced. Refugee children often live in mass shelters for more than six months without schooling.”

Christian Schneider, the UNICEF chief in Germany, stressed, “All children have equal rights, no matter where they come from, which community they belong to and which legal status they have.”

The agency added in its report that the refugee children are often traumatized by war and violence and require special protection and care.
