NATO endorses Israel’s security narrative

June 23, 2016 at 10:24 am

Israel’s permanent representation at NATO has not only delighted the colonial entity, which continues to garner prominence at an international level due to the corruption of international organisations. NATO has also deemed cooperation with Israel as essential, revealing the extent to which Israel’s security narrative has been endorsed.
Last month, Israel, together with other countries, was asked “to open diplomatic missions to the Headquarters of the Atlantic Alliance in Brussels”. A generic invitation at first glance; however Israel’s inclusion is indicative of NATO’s intent to accomplish military and economic domination.

Quoted in the Times of Israel, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg stated that after 20 years of Israel being an active alliance partner, further cooperation was now essential. “Violence in North Africa and in the Middle East is a clear threat to all our nations … It is vital that countries which share the same values stand together against hate and terrorism”. No mention of who embarked upon fomenting the mutating violence which has had severe repercussions in the region was forthcoming from NATO.

Shared ambitions to dominate and manipulate, as opposed to the alleged values fleetingly mentioned by Stoltenberg, make Israel and NATO compatible partners. Both share a penchant for operating against international law through manipulation or overt disregard; expansion is also a common phenomenon of both the military alliance and the colonial presence in Palestine.  However, the most perilous consequences regarding the new collaboration is NATO’s endorsement of colonialism, which is also reflective of the alliance’s actions, as well as Israel’s security narrative having been legitimised at an ultimate level, to the detriment of Palestinians and the entire world.

Awareness of NATO as a global threat has increased in recent years, as evidence points to its disregard of Article 1 of the NATO Charter, which requires the alliance “to settle any international dispute in which they may be involved through peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security are not endangered, and to refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force in any manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations.”

When it comes to Israel, awareness stops at Palestine. While Palestinians are the primary victims of colonial annihilation, international institutions have promoted Israel to the point where the security threat personified by its manifestation has been elevated and distorted into an acceptable narrative.

It is already common knowledge that Israel’s success in military technology is punctuated by timely massacres in which its developments are tested upon the Palestinian population in Gaza. Apart from the usual cowardly condemnations from international institutions, massacres are no longer considered a violation of international law. The same can be said of NATO’s victims, whose memory has been dimmed through the hypocritical term of “collateral damage”.

The world is about to witness a major shift in the dehumanisation of people and the glorification of murder through wars and intervention. Such manipulation at a high level should make the masses aware not only of the isolation and obliteration tactics which Palestinians face daily, but also of the tactics used to isolate understanding in order to facilitate global repression. It is indeed a tragedy that the perfunctory reports of such treachery are regarded as mere notification dissemination rather than a blatant admission of valuing profit and plunder instead of dignity and humanity.
