Muslim scholars in Iraq appeal to Gulf states to defend Sunnis

June 28, 2016 at 10:08 am

The Secretary-General of the Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq (AMSI) Dr Muthanna Harith Al-Dhari has called on Arab and Gulf states to take a strong position towards the massacres taking place in Fallujah, urging them to move quickly and defend their fellow Sunnis in Iraq as well as their national security.

Al-Dhari said the battle of Fallujah is run by Iran and it has set a timetable and instructed Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi to fight within that framework.

In remarks published by Qatar’s Bawabat Al-Sharq newspaper yesterday, he said: “The war on Fallujah aims to eliminate the entire city and is not against the Islamic State especially because Fallujah withstood the American occupation.”

Al-Dhari pointed out that the Arab countries which participate in the international coalition support Iran “knowingly or unknowingly”.

“The war on Fallujah aims to create a sectarian barrier and split the Sunni Arab areas between Iraq and Saudi Arabia and the rest of the neighbours,” he said.

The Iraqi military announced on Sunday evening the full liberation of Fallujah from Daesh forces.
