Erdogan: Turkey to formally demand US extradite Gulen

July 18, 2016 at 11:47 am

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara will formally write to the United States to demand the extradition of US-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen and his supporters in the aftermath of a failed coup attempt.

Speaking at the funeral of some of those killed during Friday night’s failed coup, Erodgan said members of the Gulen group, who had penetrated into all ranks of the army, are being detained.

He vowed to punish all those who took part in the coup.

“We will continue to clean the virus from all state bodies because this virus has spread. Unfortunately like a cancer, this virus has enveloped the state. We knew this and told all relevant authorities,” he added.

Erdogan has called on his supporters to remain in public squares.
