Australian One Nation leader: ‘we are in danger of being swamped by Muslims’

“Islam cannot have a significant presence in Australia if we are to live in an open, secular and cohesive society.”

Australian far-right leader of the One Nation party Pauline Hanson told parliament in her maiden speech yesterday: “we are in danger of being swamped by Muslims who bear a culture and ideology that is incompatible with our own.”

“If you’re not prepared to become Australian and give this country your undivided loyalty,” she continued, “obey our laws, respect our culture and way of life then I suggest you go back to where you came from.”

“Islam cannot have a significant presence in Australia if we are to live in an open, secular and cohesive society.”

Hanson continued to say that “aggressive multiculturalism” is the cause of rising crime and a decline in social cohesion. “Muslims are prominent in organised crime”, she said, declaring that Australians are “more fearful” in Muslim neighbourhoods.

Hanson called for a ban on burkas and Australian companies paying for a Halal certification, which she says is costing Australians $10 mn a year.

Green leader Richard Di Natale and his senators walked out of the chamber in protest during her speech. Di Natale later tweeted: “racism has no place in parliament.”

In the nineties Hanson declared that Australia was at risk of being “swamped by Asians” who “have their own culture and religion, form ghettos and do not assimilate.”
