Iran leans closer to Europe with military agreements

As Euro-Iranian relations are gradually warming; Iran has recently gained some opportunities to expand its military co-operation with European countries.

The Commander of Iran’s First Naval Zone, Admiral Amir Hossein Azad, announced on Monday night that members of an anti-submarine frigate of the Italian Navy docked in Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas met with a number of local military and political officials on Saturday.

He noted that drills are aimed at boosting military power and also the exchange of knowledge between the two countries’ navies. Joint military drills in the Arabian Gulf are also expected to be carried out.

Iran also signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the field of nuclear safety with Switzerland this morning.
