Morocco must stop ‘harassment’ of journalists

October 3, 2016 at 9:00 pm

Moroccan authorities must stop the “harassment and prosecutions of opinion writers and journalists”, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights said.

The country’s largest rights group said the journalists are being held on the “fabricated accusations that they affect national safety and security”.

In a statement released on Saturday, the group said: “Many writers, journalists and human rights activists are being subjected to abuses… Investigative journalists, witnesses and informants are being criminalised, in particular those who are work on stories regarding bribery or human rights violations.”

Chapter 27 of the Moroccan Constitution regulates the right to information and classifies it within the essential rights and freedoms that ought to be respected.
