Sudanese doctors strike to demand protection from security services

October 6, 2016 at 1:58 pm

The Federal Committee of Sudanese Doctors is planning a nationwide strike today to demand higher wages, protection from security forces and better services at government hospitals.

More than 350 government hospitals will strike around the capital Khartoum and will “attend only emergency cases”.

The committee said the strike today was a protest against low wages, the deteriorating services government hospitals are forced to give and the rise in attacks on doctors by security forces and relatives of patients.

“We are also demanding better training and medical equipment at government hospitals,” the strikers demanded.

Recent weeks have seen an increase in reported attacks against doctors by policemen and relatives of patients angry with the service received.
