Turkey declares nine 'security zones'

The Turkish government has declared nine areas in the southeastern province of Sirnak province as “temporary special security zone” within the context of the Turkish military’s campaign against the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK).

According to the Sirnak governorate, the change will last 15 days.

The PKK is considered as a terrorist organization by Turkey, and other major international actors including the US and EU.

There have been a series of recent attacks against military and civilian personal in Turkey that have been attributed to the PKK.
