Former Sudanese President Abdel Rahman Suwar Al-Dahab insisted on Wednesday that the National Dialogue outputs, which were accepted by the majority of the Sudanese people, guarantee stability and Sudan’s unity. “I am assured because the overwhelming majority of the Sudanese accepted the agreement and they accepted having a national government by the end of this year,” Field Marshal Al-Dahab told Quds Press.

He reiterated that the “very few” sides who rejected the dialogue would not affect Sudan’s tendency towards peace. However, the former president noted that the absence of US representation during the ceremony to sign the National Agreement Document sends a “negative” message. In fact, he pointed out, the Americans issued a “negative statement” prior to the start of the national dialogue. Nevertheless, Al-Dahab pointed out that there are international efforts to persuade the doubters to join the process. “I have no doubt that we are taking the right path,” he concluded.

Field Marshal Al-Dahab is one of the five members of the Trusted Committee, from whom politicians who took part in the dialogue sought advice when they faced deadlock.

On Monday, Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir sponsored a final meeting of the National Dialogue, which he launched at the beginning of 2014. The National Agreement Document was signed by more than 100 Sudanese parties and armed groups.
