Turkish representatives are attending the opening day of the annual general assembly of Interpol’s governing body, where they are expected to back a membership application by Palestine.

The 85th Interpol General Assembly – being held 7-10 November in the resort island of Bali – is being attended by a delegation from the Turkish National Police’s Interpol department, headed by Lutfi Cicek.

According to an official statement issued by Turkish National Police, the officials will also give details to participating countries on the Fetullah Terrorist Organisation’s plot to overthrow Turkey’s elected government on 15 July, along with concerns about recent activities by the group’s members and Kurdish groups in the country.

They will also hold bilateral talks with representatives from several countries.

The assembly is composed of delegates appointed by the governments of member countries.

This year, Palestine, Kosovo and the Solomon Islands are vying for candidacy of Interpol, of which Turkey has said it will support the bids by Palestine and Kosovo.
