Egypt discusses bilateral cooperation with Iraq in energy, electricity sectors

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker met on Sunday with the Iraqi Minister of Electricity Engineer Qasim Al-Fahdawi. The meeting tackled means of boosting bilateral cooperation in the electricity and energy fields, as well as ways of achieving mutual interest for both countries.

During the meeting, President Sisi asserted that Egypt supports Iraq’s unity and sovereignty, expressing Egypt’s commitment to reinstating security and stability, in addition to starting the reconstruction process of the region.

Sisi pointed to Egypt’s support for all Iraqi sectors including the electricity sector, through offering training and Egyptian technical expertise which would facilitate the rehabilitation process of Iraqi calibres.

Presidential spokesperson Ambassador Alaa Youssef spokesman said that the Iraqi Minister of Electricity delivered greetings of the Iraqi leadership to President Sisi and expressed his nation’s gratitude to Egypt’s stances towards the Iraqi issue. He also stressed on the strength of the Egyptian Iraqi ties in all fields.

This visit came as a step further to a previous meeting held between Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi and the Egyptian Petroleum Minister last October, where both countries agreed on strengthening the bilateral ties in the energy, industry and oil & gas sectors.
