Egyptian villagers besiege police station over arrests and murder

November 15, 2016 at 9:25 am

Hundreds of residents of Ashmoun, in Egypt’s Menoufiya governorate, besieged the village’s main police station on Monday, keeping the officers captive inside the building.

The villagers demanded the release of dozens of their sons who were arrested after demonstrations staged in protest at the killing of Mohamed Eissa, a young man from Ashmoun.

The demonstrators surrounded the police station and insisted that the officers remain inside the building until their children are released. They threatened further escalations against the police until the release of their children as well as the arrest of the Abu Harira family, the members of which they believe killed Eissa.
