A delegation from Palestine’s Islamic Jihad arrived in Cairo on Monday. Headed by Secretary General Ramadhan Shallah, the group was invited by the Cairo government to discuss the development of the Palestinian cause and relations with Egypt. According to Quds Press, Deputy Secretary General Ziyad Al-Nakhalah and other senior leaders from Palestine and the diaspora accompanied Shallah.

An official statement noted that the prime issue on the agenda for the visit is the Rafah Border Crossing and the ability of Palestinians from Gaza to enter and pass through Egypt. Islamic Jihad is also planning to discuss Palestinian reconciliation and possible measures to deal with the current issues in the domestic arena.

An Islamic Jihad official in Gaza, Khader Habib, told Quds Press about the visit. It is intended, he explained, to stress the importance of Egypt’s role in the Palestinian cause. The movement, said Habib, has great respect for this role.

It is a month since Shallah proposed a ten-point initiative to solve the current Palestinian crisis and achieve reconciliation. This is his second visit to Cairo within the past six months.
