Guantanamo prisoner exposes Saudi 'rehabilitation centre' as a scam

According to a document that has recently been declassified, Saudi Arabia’s famous rehabilitation centre for jihadists is in fact counterproductive and has done more to radicalise former Guantanamo Bay prisoners than de-radicalise them.

In a session with the Guantanamo Bay parole board, former detainee Ghassan Abdullah Al-Sharbi described the “hidden radicalisation programme” in the rehabilitation centre.

He claimed that underneath the efforts of the Saudi government, there is a secret, but large network of jihadists radicalising inhabitants, which is funded by a large network of jihadists.

The Prince Mohammed Bin Naif Counselling and Care Centre is known for its largely recreational scheme to de-radicalise former terrorists and help them re-integrate into society. The inhabitants, known as “guests”, live in luxury suites and are encouraged to take part in finding their own creative output through art, literature, video games and sport. The scheme had previously received worldwide praise.

“True. You are 100 per cent right, there is a strong – externally, a strong – de-radicalisation programme. But make no mistake, underneath there is a hidden radicalisation program,” Al-Sharbi added. “There is a very hidden strong – way stronger in magnitude – broader in financing, in all that.”
