Sudan’s Al-Bashir says dealing with Trump will be easier

The Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir said yesterday that dealing with US President-elect Donald Trump will be “much easier” than dealing with others, because he is a straightforward person.

“Trump focuses on the interests of the American citizen, as opposed to those who talk about democracy, human rights and transparency,” Al-Bashir said in an interview published by Emirati daily Al-Khaleej.

“We can deal with double-faced people but here we have a person with a clear line,” Al-Bashir added.

Remarking on the Sudanese government’s efforts to combat human trafficking, Al-Bashir said that “Sudan has become a corridor for people wishing to enter Europe from Ethiopia and Eritrea and South Sudan and West Africa,” adding that there are more than 1,000 SUVs on the Sudanese-Libyan border to prevent illegal immigration.

Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged atrocities in Darfur. An arrest warrant was issued for him in 2009 for crimes against humanity and war crimes. Charges of genocide were added in 2010.
