The energy authority in the Gaza Strip announced today that one of the generators at the electricity plant has stopped temporarily due to fuel shortages.

In a press statement, the energy authority denounced the fact that the Karam Abu Salem crossing was not opened today to allow additional fuel to enter, despite its efforts and urgent demands in order to guarantee the continuation of the plant’s operations.

“Given the fact that the crossing was not opened today, we will regrettably stop one of the electricity plant’s generators temporarily and only one will continue working. This is due to the lack of fuel, coinciding with the breakdown of the Egyptian lines a few days ago, thus causing more confusion regarding the current distribution programmes.”

The authority reiterated its demands to the concerned parties to open the crossing and import additional amounts of fuel. They also called for not allowing the current energy crisis to escalate further in light of the petrol committee’s insistence on collecting the full price of the fuel in advance.
