Sakher Al-Materi, son-in-law of ousted Tunisian despot Zine Al-Abidine Ben Ali, has been discussing with a Tunisian committee a deal that could end up with his return to his home, Palestinian news site Rassd reported yesterday.

The discussions are taking place with the so-called “Dignity and Reality Committee”, a body setup by Tunis to reconcile the misdeeds of the former regime with the new order.

Rassd reported that the committee was trying to forge a reconciliation between Al-Materi, who is also a businessman, and the state before considering whether to allow him to go home or not.

According to a Tunisian news agency, Al-Materi’s defence team said that it is ready to provide the committee with all necessary files and evidence regarding the different charges against the businessman.

The team said that “there have been ongoing hearings” regarding Al-Materi held via Skype.
