Turkey is to hold a conference on Ottoman Waqf in Jerusalem in May, Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak announced.
“We are planning to hold a conference on Ottoman Waqf in Jerusalem under the auspices of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in May, in Istanbul” Kaynak told the Anadolu Agency.
He explained that Turkey has restored some 5,000 archaeological sites over the past 14 years inside and outside Turkey, under the auspices of the Turkish General Directorate of Endowments. They included mosques, churches and synagogues.
In November 2014, the Turkish Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) organised an international conference for the protection of Islamic monuments in Jerusalem, which aimed to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque from Israeli practices to damage it.
