Italy has yet to submit its ambassador’s credentials to Egypt, reportedly due to the crisis resulted by the murder of the Italian student Giulio Regeni in Egypt, Moheet reported yesterday.

In April 2016, Italy recalled its ambassador to Cairo, Maurizio Massari, due to Regeni’s murder and sent him instead to become the ambassador to Belgium.

Later on, Italy assigned Giampaolo Cantini as the new ambassador to Cairo, but has not yet sent his credentials to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

Arab websites noted that submitting the credentials of the new ambassador would be based on the developments related to the results of the investigations into Regeni’s case.

Meanwhile, it said that Cairo has been waiting for the credentials in order to submit the credentials of its own ambassador to Rome, Hisham Bader, who is to replace former ambassador Amro Helmi who returned from Rome in January.

The Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano recently said that there is no hostility between his country and Egypt due to the murder of the Italian student in Egypt.
