A photograph posted online and taken at the White House suggests that there has been a serious breach of protocol during the visit of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

Activists have pointed out that in one of the pictures, Sisi is standing while US President Donald Trump remains sitting at his desk. It is normal in such situations for those of the same rank to be either sitting or standing. However, in this case Sisi and his team were standing with Trump’s staff, while the American remained sitting down.

The Egyptian leader began his visit to the US on Saturday. This will be his longest ever visit to America.

The meeting between the two presidents was held while pro- and anti-Sisi demonstrators gathered outside the White House.
