Report: EU fails to implement refugee resettlement plan

The European Union countries have failed to fulfil their obligations towards the resettlement plan for refugees in Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Italy and Greece.

In its 11th report on the issue of refugee resettlement in the EU, the European Commission explained that the plan made among member states was not successful.

EU member states had previously decided to distribute and settle 160,000 refugees living in Italy and Greece in many European countries, the report said. It was due to continue until September this year.

According to European Commission data released on 10 April, the rest of the member states received only 5,000 refugees from Italy and 11,339 refugees from Greece, despite their support for the Refugee Settlement Agreement.

The European countries have resettled 15,492 refugees from Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon, although an agreement reached in July 2015 provides for the resettlement of 22,504 refugees from these countries.
