Jordan’s King Abdullah II has confirmed the Kingdom’s continued efforts to protect Arab Christians and preserve their identity, pointing out that Jordan represents a model of brotherhood and true harmony between Muslims and Christians.

King Abdullah II made the remarks during a meeting with Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby at the Husseiniya Palace in Amman and was attended by Prince Ghazi Bin Mohammed, the King’s senior advisor to religious and cultural affairs.

The king reviewed during the meeting the Kingdom’s efforts to protect and nurture Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem as well as regional developments.

A statement issued by the Royal Hashemite Court said the meeting also discussed the Israeli unilateral actions in Jerusalem, which threaten Muslim and Christian holy sites.

King Abdullah II stressed Jordan’s absolute rejection of any attempts to undermine the identity of the Holy City and its Arab identity.

The meeting has also addressed current regional issues, especially efforts to combat extremism and terrorism.

The Archbishop of Canterbury hailed the Kingdom’s efforts under the leadership of King Abdullah II to highlight the true image of Islam and to protect holy sites and the Christian communities in Jerusalem.
