Iran sent a formal protest letter to the UN secretary-general and Security Council against Saudi Deputy Crown Prince and Defence Minister Mohammed Bin Salman after his recent statements regarding Tehran.

A statement posted on the Iranian foreign ministry’s official website yesterday stated it sent a protest letter to the UN Secretary-General and Security Council stating that Bin Salman threatened Iran in its recent statements when he said: “We won’t wait for the battle to be in Saudi Arabia. Instead, we’ll work so that the battle is for them in Iran.”

In its letter, the Iranian foreign ministry held Saudi Arabia responsible for the death of nine Iranian soldiers last week near the border with Pakistan.

They also noted that Bin Salman made “baseless accusations” against Iran.

Saudi-Iranian relations are experiencing a major crisis after Riyadh announced it was severing diplomatic ties with Iran on 3 January 2016, due to the attacks on the Saudi embassy in Tehran and consulate in Mashhad in protest against the execution of the Saudi Shia cleric, Nimr Baqir Al-Nimr.
