Morocco infiltrates Daesh cell

May 11, 2017 at 12:40 pm

Six people have been arrested this week suspected of being Daesh members, the Moroccan Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), under the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), confirmed yesterday.

The cell was reportedly active across Morocco in cities including Casablanca, Tangier, Tetouan, Marrakech and Safi, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

[The defendants] adhered to…propaganda for Daesh, through which they threatened to carry out terrorist operations in Morocco, like the barbaric acts committed by the fighters of this organisation in several countries.

Those arrested had links with combatants in Syria and Iraq and had acquired skills in the manufacture of explosives to carry out terrorist operations targeting certain strategic sites of public institutions in several Moroccan cities.

In the raid, electronic equipment, gloves and protective masks used in the manufacture of explosive devices, as well as weapons and documents authorising the liquidation of unaffiliated persons to Daesh were seized.

The respondents will be brought to justice once the investigation is over under the supervision of the public prosecutor.

The operation follows the arrest on Monday of another Daesh supporter in Tangier linked to two accomplices arrested the same day in Spain by the Spanish security services.
