Rocket launched from Egypt into Israel

May 24, 2017 at 11:46 am

A rocket launched from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula landed in an open, uninhabited area the Eshkol Regional Council in southern Israel, causing no injuries or casualties, Israeli media reported yesterday.

Israel did not sound warning sirens when the rocket launched because it was projected to land in an open area, the Israeli website Ynet News reported, citing an army statement.

No group or organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack; and the Egyptian authorities have not issued statements about the incident.

Since February, several rockets have reportedly been fired from Sinai toward southern Israel and the city of Eilat. Wilayat Sinai, a Daesh-affiliate in the peninsula, announced that five of its members were killed in an Israeli drone strike in Northern Sinai, the Times of Israel news website reported on 19 February, citing Daesh’s Amaq news agency.

Rockets fired from Egypt’s Sinai have often landed in southern Israel, resulting in no damage or casualties.
