Syrian artist, Abdulla Al-Omari’s latest exhibition stole the show in Germany, as he painted the leaders of the world as refugees in an art show highlighting the suffering of the refugees who have become mere numbers.

It prompts the public to ask themselves, “What if world leaders were refugees?”

Al-Omari’s painted US President Donald Trump as a refugee holding his daughter in his arms, along with some of his belongings. Sadness and desperation are clear on his face. Meanwhile, his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, was drawn in torn clothes and frazzled hair, holding a paper saying, “Help me”.

He also drew former US President Barack Obama, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. The latter is holding a small paper boat on his head and is in wet clothing. He drew many other leaders, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, former Iranian President Ahmadinejad and the leader of the coup in Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

The Syrian artist currently lives in Belgium and is originally from the Syrian capital city Damascus. He left his country and headed for Europe in 2012 after the outbreak of the war.
