Houthis: Qatar has two options

June 7, 2017 at 12:03 pm

Qatar can either comply with the demands of Saudi Arabia or benefit from the contradictions which exist in the Middle East, Yemen’s Houthis said yesterday.

Yemen Press reported that the leader of the Houthi armed group, Sayyed Abdul Malik Badruddin Al-Houthi, said:

The Saudi regime wants to be the sole leader of the Arab nation but not to be a real leader for its project, which serves the Arab nation or the Islamic nation, but to be acting as a policeman for American leadership and authority.

The statement comes after the Houthis said they were willing to cooperate with Qatar after Arab states severed diplomatic ties with the Gulf state on Monday.

Qatar joined a Saudi-led coalition against the Houthis in 2015; however on Monday Riyadh ended Doha’s participation in the alliance.

In 2004, Qatar mediated to end a rift between then President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the Houthis.
