UN envoy to Yemen to move from US to Jordan

The government of Jordan officially accepted the transfer of the United Nations envoy to Yemen’s office from the United States, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The transfer comes as temporary measure however no details have been given as to how long the move is likely to be for. At present the envoy’s office is located in New York.

UN special envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, requested the transfer of the office which was accepted by the Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi.

An agreement is to be signed between the UN and Jordan related to moving the office.

The move positions Cheikh Ahmed within easy reach of war-torn Yemen and allows officials from  the country to travel out to see him.
