Israel Police Commander Yoram Levy was among a group of settlers who stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque this morning, local media reported.

The official accessed the Muslim holy site through the Mughrabi Gate at 7:30am. Special units and rapid intervention forces were deployed across the mosque's courtyards to protect the settlers while Muslim worshippers were subjected to tightened security checks.

The Director General of the Department of Islamic Endowments and Al Aqsa Mosque Sheikh, Azzam Al-Khatib, told the Palestinian news site Safa that the commander of the Israeli police brigade was accompanied by dozens of extremists and officers when he stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque.Occupation forces detained the ID cards of Muslim worshippers entering the mosque and subjected them to security checks.
