It is unknown who was behind the drone strike however the United Arab Emirates, which is partaking in a Saudi-led coalition to reinstate Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, has included objectives to assist the US to target AQAP. Saudi Arabia remains focused on targeting the Iranian-backed Houthi group which has gained control of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.

Since 2004, the United States of America has been executing drone strikes in Yemen with the military objective of degrading AQAP. The US has not publically commented on the latest strike.
