Aoun: Don't turn Syrian refugee camps into 'incubators of terrorism'

Lebanese President Michel Aoun today that the Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon could turn into “incubators of terrorism”.

During a press conference following a cabinet meeting, Lebanese Information Minister, Melhem Al-Riyashi said that Aoun called on “the army, the security forces and the people to cooperate to prevent them [terrorists] from carrying out their crimes”.

“The Cabinet expresses its appreciation and support for the army and its proactive action to pursue terrorists. Any voice of doubt on the credibility of the army is rejected,” Riyashi said.

Prime Minister, Saad Al-Hariri, said that communication with the Syrian regime is a matter of disagreement between the different parties, stressing the government’s desire for displaced Syrians to be able to return to their homes.

On Friday, the Lebanese army said four suicide bombings took place during raids in refugee camps near the eastern town of Arsal.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Lebanon is sheltering more than 1.2 million Syrian refugees.
