Daesh confirms death of leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi

Daesh has confirmed the death of its leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, according to online media reports.

Iraq’s Al Sumaria News sourced information that confirmed the death of the leader in an airstrike in the province of Nineveh, located on the outskirts of Mosul.

In addition to previous statement by the Russian Ministry of Defence that Al-Baghdadi was killed in June, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also confirmed the report today.

Al-Baghdadi was the leader of Daesh which controls a wide stretch of territory across Syria and which has been battling for control of its last remaining enclaves in northern Iraq. The group attained pledges of allegiances from a number of armed groups in North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.
