Netanyahu: Israel carried out strikes on Hezbollah convoys

July 20, 2017 at 4:53 pm

Israel has carried out dozens of strikes against Hezbollah arms convoys in Syria, admitted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The comments were made during a meeting with Eastern European leaders, in which Netanyahu spoke freely about subjects such as the EU and its policies with its neighbouring countries while unwittingly being recorded by a live microphone which was relaying the speech to reporters before it was discovered and shut down.

During the closed meeting with the premiers of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia in Budapest yesterday, Netanyahu claimed that Israel “blocked the border not only in Egypt but in the Golan Heights” due to “a problem with ISIS [Daesh] and Iran trying to build a terror front there.”

He then went on to say that he “told [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, when we see them transferring weapons to Hezbollah, we will hurt them. We did it dozens of times.”

It wasn’t just sensitive information about Israeli foreign policy and military actions that Netanyahu accidentally released, but also his own controversial views on the European Union and its attitude towards Israel.

Speaking about the EU’s criticism of Israel’s domestic policies, violation of human rights and building of illegal settlements, he stressed that “the EU is undermining its security by undermining Israel. Europe is undermining its progress by undermining its connection with Israeli innovation by a crazy attempt to create conditions.”

Netanyahu said Europe should adopt a stance that supports Israel, urging it to “start supporting European economies by doing what the Americans, the Chinese and the Indians are doing,” referring to increasing cooperation in technology and innovation.
