Qatar’s support for the Palestinian people does not target Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood specifically, the Qatari Ambassador to Algeria has said, stressing that Hamas is a legitimate resistance movement.

Algeria’s Alkhabar newspaper quoted Ibrahim Bin Abdulaziz Al-Sahlawi saying that Hamas is similar to the Algerian resistance that took up arms to expel the occupation. He added that the movement’s representation in Qatar is “political”.

“We are surprised that Hamas is accused of being a terrorist movement by the ambassador of an Arab country and that this is promoted in Algeria,” referring to the statements made by the Saudi Ambassador to Algeria, Sami Bin Abdullah Al-Saleh.

Earlier this month and in an interview with Ennahar television, Al-Saleh was asked if Hamas is a terrorist organisation to which he replied, “It’s now categorised….if it seeks to cause and create trouble then of course.”
