Turkey, Qatar agree on agricultural, livestock cooperation

Turkey and Qatar yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the agriculture and livestock sectors.

The cooperation will include the exchange of technical expertise and the results of scientific research in these sectors, the Turkish Gazette reported.

The two sides will also hold seminars, conferences and meetings on ways to develop the two sectors, as well as encourage investment cooperation between the private institutions and companies in the field of agricultural marketing.

The cooperation also includes organising joint projects in the field of irrigation, plant protection and the establishment of veterinary laboratories.

A joint agricultural steering committee will also be established to monitor and evaluate the progress of cooperation. The committee will meet regularly in both countries.

The Turkish pPrliament approved on 7 June an agreement on the strengthening of military cooperation between Turkey and Qatar which allows Ankara to establish military bases in Qatar and deploy military forces.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed support for Qatar during its crisis with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt.
