The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and National Security announced today that it had arrested 27 people suspected of belonging to Daesh.

According to IRNA, the ministry said in a statement: “17 suspects were arrested inside Iranian territory, while the rest were arrested from places in which they had gathered in other countries.”

“Intelligence cooperation between Tehran and security services belonging to a number of neighbouring countries” helped capture the suspects.

According to the Iranian agency, the suspects were arrested before the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, which was held on Saturday in the capital Tehran.

“The suspects were planning to carry out terrorist attacks deep inside Iran and a number of religious cities in the country,” the ministry said in a statement.

On 7 June, Daesh carried out a double attack on the Iranian Parliament building and Ayatollah Khomeini’s shrine in Tehran, killing 17 people and injuring dozens.
