Qatar’s Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip insisted on Monday that its projects in the besieged enclave are ongoing, Al-Arab newspaper has reported. The committee issued a statement following reports in Saudi-owned Al-Sharq Al-Awsat that the latest visit of the Qatari ambassador to Gaza was intended to terminate the rebuilding projects.

“Our projects in Gaza are going on as normal,” said the Director of the Qatari Committee in Gaza, Yousef Al-Ghoreez. “We are currently implementing projects worth $85 million.”

Al-Ghoreez reiterated that the Qatari programme in the Gaza Strip is not affected by the siege imposed on the Gulf State by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt. He pointed out that the Qatari ambassador signed the contracts for new projects during his last visit. The contractors, he added, are paid on time and regularly.
