The situation in the Gaza Strip is going “from bad to worse” and will continue to deteriorate if the current electricity crisis is not resolved, Chairman of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza HE Ambassador Mohammed Al-Emadi warned.

After opening the committee’s headquarters laying in Gaza, Al-Emadi told journalists: “I do not think there will be a solution soon.”

The electricity crisis in Gaza is complex and we are working with several parties, including the UN and the International Quartet to find a solution for it.

Gaza is only being served by four hours of electricity per day, he explained, and this is set to reduce to two hours in hospitals during the hot summer weather.

Hamas chief, Ismail Haniyeh, hailed the Qatari role in alleviating the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.

Our brothers in Qatar will not give up supporting the Palestinian people and Gaza residents and they will move in all directions and take all tracks to put an end to the 10-year humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.
