Libya seeks Tunisia's help to release trapped citizens

September 16, 2017 at 12:12 pm

Libya has urged Tunisia to help alleviate the suffering of Libyan families stuck on its border, Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported yesterday.

The Foreign Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord Mohamed Siala “immediately” called his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui “after he received credible information about the issue from his deputy”.

Libyan media had reported local security officials saying that a number of Libyan families were stuck in the Tunisian area of Ben Gardane on Thursday, noting that Tunisian protesters prevented them from going back home to Libya or travelling further into Tunisia.

According to the Libya, the Tunisian minister pledged to “deal wisely” with the issue.

Tunisians have repeatedly closed the crossing between Tunisia and Libya, as well as the road leading to it.

Daesh is not dead and buried; it is another tool in the war on terror

Libya has suffered unrest since the ousting of longtime dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. It has since seen fighting between three power houses, one in its capital Tripoli, another in Benghazi and a third in Beida.

Daesh has taken advantage of the conflict and taken control of many of the country’s oilfields.
