Israeli tourists return to Egypt’s Sinai

September 26, 2017 at 10:38 pm

Despite several travel warnings, thousands of Israeli tourists are spending the Jewish holidays in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, Egyptian media outlets reported.

The Egyptian tourism ministry has announced that over 10,000 Israelis had flooded resorts in south Sinai over the past few days.

Israel’s Channel 2 recently reported that the number of Israeli tourists to Sinai this year has increased by 30 per cent compared to last year.

The Egyptian authorities have been working hard to improve security across the country’s tourist sites including Sinai, in an attempt to revive the country’s ailing tourism sector which collapsed following the Russian plane crash in October 2015.

In September, the Israeli Counter-Terrorism Bureau warned Israelis against travelling to Egypt, Turkey and Europe because of the threat of terrorist attacks, calling on Israelis in the Sinai to “leave immediately”.
