Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas sent a letter on Friday to the Speaker of the Kuwaiti Parliament Marzouq Al-Ghanim thanking him for his support towards the “just” Palestinian cause, Al-Resalah newspaper reported.

“I am pleased to offer thanks in my name and on behalf of the Palestinian people for your courage in showing the reality,” Abbas wrote, according to the PA’s official news agency, Al-Resalah reported.

Abbas pointed out Al-Ghanim’s “firm response” to the Israeli delegation at the Inter-Parliamentarian Union’s assembly held in St Petersburg, Russia.

“In this occasion, I am happy to pass all the appreciation of the Palestinian people to Kuwait and its Emir, my brother Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, as well as to thank the Kuwaiti parliament and the Kuwait government for their political and financial support for the Palestinians.”

Other Palestinian officials, including Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, hailed the reaction of the Kuwaiti officials regarding the Israeli crimes exposed at the meeting by the Tunisian delegation.

Haniyeh phoned Al-Ghanim and thanked him for his actions and said: “This is what the Palestinians expected from their brothers.” Al-Ghanim replied to Haniyeh: “This is our duty towards the and our Palestinian brothers.”

Last week, Al-Ghanim, who headed the Kuwaiti delegation at the international IPU conference, told the Israeli delegation to “get out of the hall right now if you have an atom of dignity … You occupier, child killers. The Israeli delegation left the room in response.

Upon his return to Kuwait he was received with a hero’s welcome.
